Real Madrid fans did something they rarely do after Frenkie de Jong got injured in El Clasico

Real Madrid fans have earned praise for their sportsmanship after Frenkie de Jong sustained an injury during El Clasico against Barcelona.

Jude Bellingham’s 91st-minute goal clinched a thrilling 3-2 victory for Real Madrid at the Bernabeu, effectively securing another La Liga title for Carlo Ancelotti’s team.

The match also saw a tragic moment for Barcelona as Frenkie de Jong suffered a severe ankle injury, with his foot twisting upon impact from a Federico Valverde tackle. While the severity of the injury is yet to be confirmed by Barcelona, De Jong’s participation in Euro 2024 is now uncertain.

Despite the intense rivalry, Real Madrid fans displayed a touch of class by applauding De Jong as he was stretchered off the pitch, acknowledging the seriousness of the injury with respect and sportsmanship.

Despite being in evident agony, De Jong acknowledged both sets of supporters with a gesture of appreciation as he was escorted down the tunnel for further medical attention.

Following the match, Xavi expressed his frustration with VAR, which failed to award Yamal’s goal despite indications that it may have crossed the line.

Unlike other top European leagues, La Liga does not utilize goal-line technology, and Xavi made his dissatisfaction with this clear in his post-match comments.

“It’s a disgrace,” he began. “If we want to be the best league in the world, we have to advance in this sense, you have to put in the technology.”
