Arne Slot set to hold crunch talks with two key Liverpool players once he becomes manager

Slot’s imminent confirmation as Liverpool manager is on the horizon, and he’ll be faced with a sizable workload from the get-go.

After Arne Slot’s appointment as the new manager of the Reds is official, he is expected to have conversations with two important Liverpool players. Feyenoord and Liverpool have come to a preliminary understanding about the compensation package for the Dutch player, who has expressed his desire to join Anfield to the Dutch media.

After the agreement is completed, the 45-year-old will take over as Liverpool’s manager at the end of the current campaign, succeeding Jurgen Klopp.

Slot will be taking over one of the largest football teams in England, but when he does take over, he will have a lot of problems to deal with.

The most important one is Mohamed Salah’s future, as he and Klopp got into a physical altercation on the sidelines of Saturday’s 2-2 draw with West Ham.

With the 31-year-old approaching the last 12 months of his contract and the Saudi Pro League showing interest in a transfer, that has only seemed to increase the likelihood of the Egyptian leaving Anfield.

Furthermore, Salah’s future will be decided by Liverpool “at the end of the season,” or once Slot takes over as manager, according to Fabrizio Romano.

He told CaughtOffside: “Now he [Salah] has to decide with new directors and under new manager Arne Slot.

“Salah’s future will be decided at the end of the season, not now. For Liverpool, it was crucial to prepare new project and they have now new manager, new directors all set.”

Meanwhile, The Daily Mirror reports that whenever Slot assumes leadership, the future of captain Virgil van Dijk will be a “urgent” priority, with Borussia Dortmund being one of the European teams interested in signing the center-back.

The 32-year-old’s contract at Anfield expires the same summer as Salah’s, and Trent Alexander-Arnold is approaching the last 12 months of his agreement. “I think Arne Slot might be one of the better Dutch coaches at this moment,” Van Dijk told reporters in response to rumours that Slot will soon be named Liverpool’s manager.

“I think the way he plays, and the philosophy he has, that he could be a Liverpool coach. Only in my opinion.

“What I also read and hear, of course, is that it is far from finalised. We will see. Next year we will focus on that.”
