Ange Postecoglou, the manager of Spurs, responded coldly when asked if he could see himself lifting titles.
The former Celtic manager has had a significant impact at Spurs, turning them into one of the league’s most attractive teams, even with the loss of talisman Harry Kane in the summer.
After 20 games, Spurs are in fifth place, just six points behind leaders Liverpool, despite having led the table early on due to a number of injuries.
The North London team will hope to do better in the FA Cup when they play Burnley on Friday night. The team was knocked from the Carabao Cup on penalties against Fulham in the second round.
The Spurs last won a trophy in 2008. Postecoglou was asked if he imagined himself holding trophies during a press conference recently.
During news conferences, the 58-year-old maintained his excellent performance by responding, “I’ve got real images, mate. Mate, there are a lot of them. No, buddy, I merely glance at the ones I own.”
Postecoglou said, “No, I’ve earned them, I’m not lucky!” to the journalist’s statement that he was “lucky” to be able to accomplish that.
In addition to league championships from Scotland, Australia, and Japan, Postecoglou’s trophy collection now includes an international Asian Cup victory from 2015.
Although he has already won three Premier League Manager of the Month titles, accolades will be the true test of his abilities.
The last major prize the Spurs have won is the League Cup, which they won under Juande Ramos over 16 years ago.
