Liverpool ready to sell Jurgen Klopp’s favourite player
Questions have naturally arisen about Wataru Endo’s capability to bolster Liverpool’s title aspirations next season. Comparisons with top-tier midfielders like Declan Rice and Rodri only amplify these doubts.
Adding to the speculation, David Lynch recently noted on X (formerly Twitter) that Liverpool might consider selling Endo if a more substantial bid comes in. This follows Liverpool’s rejection of an initial offer from Marseille, with James Pearce citing several reasons for this decision, including timing, the availability of replacements, and the immediate needs of the squad under new manager Arne Slot. Jurgen Klopp’s assessment of Endo provides valuable context. When the Japanese international arrived at the AXA training centre last summer, some fans were puzzled, especially since Liverpool had almost secured Moises Caicedo. However, Endo quickly impressed, particularly with his performance against Manchester City at Anfield, earning high praise from Klopp.
“Signing a 30-year-old captain of Japan and expecting him to stand out in the Premier League was a gamble,” Klopp told BBC Sport. “But Endo has excelled, especially in his partnerships with Macca, Dom, and Harvey. His development into a top player has been remarkable.”
While dubbing Endo “world-class” might be an overstatement, his contributions have been significant. Keeping him at the club makes sense if Liverpool can’t secure a clear upgrade, and it wouldn’t obstruct Stefan Bajcetic’s progress either.
