Arsenal’s Potential Alvarez Transfer Boosted by Player Sales
Manchester City is reportedly demanding a substantial transfer fee for Julian Alvarez this summer. However, Arsenal might be able to secure Alvarez by generating around £100 million through player sales.
Arsenal has already made a significant profit this summer, achieving a record transfer fee for an academy graduate. Emile Smith Rowe’s transfer to Fulham brought in an initial £27 million, with an additional £7 million in potential add-ons.
Additionally, Arsenal could gain another £50 million if they sell Eddie Nketiah, with reports suggesting this is the club’s asking price for the striker. Although Marseille has shown interest in Nketiah, their offers so far do not meet Arsenal’s valuation. Premier League clubs might also make a move for Nketiah closer to the transfer deadline if negotiations with the French club fall through.
Reiss Nelson could also be sold this summer, with Crystal Palace, Fulham, Nottingham Forest, and West Ham United expressing interest. Arsenal is reportedly seeking around £20 million, including add-ons, for Nelson.
Combining the fees from potential sales of Nelson and Nketiah with the funds already received from Smith Rowe’s transfer would bring Arsenal close to £100 million. This amount could then be used to cover Manchester City’s asking price for Julian Alvarez.
According to The Athletic, City is asking for an initial £70 million plus £20 million in add-ons for Alvarez. Although Atletico Madrid is also in talks to sign Alvarez, their current offer only totals £59 million, with £46.8 million as the initial fee.
By selling Nelson and Nketiah at their desired valuations, Arsenal could financially outmaneuver Atletico Madrid for Alvarez. However, manager Mikel Arteta has advised caution regarding significant spending this summer.
“We don’t expect to do anything like it,” Arteta stated in Philadelphia before a pre-season match against Liverpool. “That’s the reality.”
