Barcelona has been dealt a significant blow ahead of the new La Liga season, as Ilkay Gündogan is set to miss the first few league games after sustaining an injury in today’s friendly against AS Monaco.

The midfielder, who was a key summer signing for Barça, had to leave the pitch early after picking up the injury during the Joan Gamper Trophy match, which ended in a 3-0 defeat for the Catalan side.

Gündogan’s absence will be a huge setback for Barcelona as they prepare to kick off their league campaign, with the German international expected to play a pivotal role under new manager Hansi Flick.

The extent of his injury is still being assessed, but early reports suggest he could be sidelined for several weeks, forcing the team to rethink their strategy for the opening games of the season.
