The report indicates that representatives from the two Premier League giants were present at the match to scout Bayer star Florian Wirtz and Bayern’s Jamal Musiala. Both players are highly esteemed talents in Germany and are viewed as top young prospects in Europe.
Liverpool had earlier been considered the frontrunners in the race to sign both players. However, City’s presence at the recent match suggests that the Reds might encounter strong competition in their pursuit.
Musiala, aged 20, transferred to the German team from Chelsea’s youth academy in 2019. Since then, he has made 150 appearances for the club across all senior-level competitions, contributing 38 goals and 26 assists.
Wirtz, meanwhile, has been a key player for Leverkusen since moving from fellow German club Koln in 2020. The midfielder has particularly impressed this season, recording five goals and nine assists to help propel Xabi Alonso’s team to the top of the Bundesliga table after 22 matches.
