After citing an injury, Mason Mount was replaced half-time during Manchester United’s loss against Brighton.
United lost 2-1 on the south coast; Brighton’s difference came from Joao Pedro’s 95th-minute header. And an injury issue for Mount, who was taken off after the break for Joshua Zirkzee, further compounded the unsatisfactory outcome.
After a £55million purchase from Chelsea because to injury, Mount made only 20 appearances in all competitions last season. Thanks to pre-season, the 25-year-old managed to start their campaign completely fit; nonetheless, Erik ten Hag delivered some unfortunate news in his post-match press conference.
Ten Hag stated, “It was pushed,” when asked why Mount withdrew. “He highlighted a problem, and I did not want to gamble on it. How much of a concern this time raises for me?

Thanks to Danny Welbeck’s tap-in from Kaoru Mitoma’s cross, Brighton was 1-0 at half-time and may have pushed Ten Hag’s hand with substitutions nevertheless. After scoring the season-opener against Fulham last weekend, Zirkzee was called upon and United leveled in the second half.
Amad ran in behind and equalised via a deflection before United seemed to have gone 2-1 ahead via replacement Alejandro Garnacho. Replays, however, revealed that Garnacho’s attempt struck an offside Zirkzee before it crossed the line, thereby requiring VAR to rule the goal off.
