Manchester United’s move for Manuel Ugarte has taken a giant step closer after agreeing terms with Paris Saint-Germain for the Uruguayan midfielder.
United have been intent on bringing a No.6 to Old Trafford before the window shuts, with a number of players being linked.
Earlier this month, Burnley’s Sander Berge emerged as a surprise target after club officials at Old Trafford made contact with his camp regarding a potential move.
Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi, who impressed for Spain at this summer’s European Championship, was also mentioned at one stage alongside AS Monaco’s Youssouf Fofana.
But after agreeing personal terms with Ugarte back in July, it finally looks like United and PSG have shaken hands on a fee for the 23-year-old.
Ben Jacobs suggests that a €50 million [£42.29m] fixed fee plus €10 million [£8.46m] in add-ons has been agreed following weeks of speculation.
He also claims that Paris Saint-Germain have included a 10 per cent sell-on clause in the agreement.
United have used sell-on clauses on numerous occasions this summer. They secured a hefty sell-on clause in the proposed deal to sell Facundo Pellistri to Panathinaikos.
And they retained a buyback option and a 30 per cent sell-on clause for Will Fish as the academy product joined Championship side Cardiff City for £1 million plus £3 million in bonuses.
But it is fairly unusual for an arrival at Old Trafford to have a sell-on clause inserted into an agreement.
Ugarte, who made 4.6 tackles per 90 minutes in Ligue 1 last season, will travel to England on Tuesday for a medical, according to David Ornstein.

United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe prioritised strengthening four positions ahead of the 2024/25 campaign – a full-back, centre-back, central-midfielder and a striker – and it appears he’s pulled it off.
Joshua Zirkzee was the first transfer through the door after a £34 million deal was struck with Serie A outfit Bologna.
Leny Yoro soon joined for around £58.9 million and ahead of their Premier League opener against Fulham, defenders Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui joined from Bayern Munich.
Now, it appears Manuel Ugarte will be United’s final summer signing as they attempt to improve on last season’s woes.
