Matthijs de Ligt recently joined Manchester United in a big summer move, and former Arsenal winger Theo Walcott said that he had hoped that his old team would sign him.

De Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui, also from Bayern Munich, arrived in Manchester on Monday to get physical checks at Old Trafford. Both players will be important additions to Erik ten Hag’s team after they get back.

De Ligt and Ten Hag had worked together before at Ajax, and Ten Hag was excited to work with the Dutch center back again at Manchester United. After their contracts are over, both De Ligt and Mazraoui should be able to play in Manchester United’s first Premier League game against Fulham on Friday.

Some experts have questioned United’s choice to sign De Ligt, but Walcott is sure that the 25-year-old defender will be better for the team than their current defensive options. The former England player also said that De Ligt was a player he had wanted to see at the Emirates Stadium in the past, especially when Arsenal didn’t have as many good center-backs.

On BBC Radio 5 Live, Walcott said, “It will be interesting to see how quickly they [De Ligt and Mazraoui] can adapt.” “These guys need to start right away.” In the Premier League, it’s not easy to catch up. United players have had trouble with that in the past.

We’re talking about good players, but some of them seem to find it hard to play for United. There was talk of De Ligt coming to the Premier League, and I thought, “Oh, Arsenal could use someone like that.” This was especially true when they were changing center backs and their current ones weren’t as strong. Yes, I’m excited to see what he brings to United. “He is better than what they have now.”

After signing French defender Leny Yoro and Dutch forward Joshua Zirkzee, De Ligt and Mazraoui will be Manchester United’s third and fourth new players of the summer.

Not everyone is sure, though, that De Ligt is a good fit for Manchester United. Brazil’s legendary player Rio Ferdinand is worried about the Dutchman and thinks he might not be the answer United is looking for. Ferdinand said on his YouTube account, “Mazraoui will play right back because Wan-Bissaka is going to be sold.” That seems like a good deal all around. I still believe that Diogo Dalot plays better than him.

“But with De Ligt… I saw him play for Ajax. He was great that year when ten Hag led them to the semi-finals, but Spurs beat them. He was calm and in charge, which is exactly what you want in a defense. When you see that he goes to Juventus, you think, “Great move.” A defender will learn from players like [Giorgio] Chiellini, [Leonardo] Bonucci, and the rest of them.

“But the way his career has gone since then just makes me sad.” I believe he started 16 games last year. He’s been hurt a lot and hasn’t started many games in the last two or three years, but Manchester United still pays 45–50 million pounds for justhim.

Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard, the signing could be massive for the London club. However, a potential stumbling block over any deal for Arsenal could be the finances involved. The 28-year-old currently earns £300,000 per week at Bayern Munich, meaning he would become the highest paid player at the London club if they were to match his current earnings.Additionally, the winger has another three years left on his contract and therefore, Bayern may demand a large transfer fee for a permanent move. However, some reports have suggested that a loan deal for Coman could be an option for Arsenal, removing some of the financial burden that a transfer would entail.Coman made 27 appearances for the Bundesliga giants last season, scoring five goals and assisting three.Coman has also made two appearances for Bayern this season, coming off the bench and scoring in the season opening match against SSV Ulm.
