🔥🏟️Rio Ferdinand claims Arne Slot let two Liverpool stars ‘cheat’ in win over Man Utd
Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah and Luis Diaz were allowed to “cheat” against Manchester United thanks to Arne Slot’s tactical brilliance, according to Rio Ferdinand. The Reds secured a 3-0 victory at Old Trafford on Sunday, marking a successful debut for Slot against the Red Devils.
Diaz scored twice in the first half with an assist from his fellow winger for his second goal, while Salah added to the tally in the second half with a left-footed strike past Andre Onana.
Casemiro was largely blamed for the defeat after losing possession to Ryan Gravenberch for Liverpool’s opening goal and being intercepted by Diaz for the second.
However, Ferdinand highlighted how Slot instructed his wingers to exploit United when the chance arose which proved to be a key part of Liverpool’s success in the game.
On the ‘Rio Presents’ show, alongside former United team-mate Owen Hargreaves and co-host Joel Beya, the ex-England captain explained that the positioning of Salah and Diaz allowed them to “cheat”.
He implied that they could regain possession high up the pitch and push for a goal if they managed to dispossess United, which they did twice.
“Let them cheat, that’s what we used to do,” Ferdinand said. “Initially let them cheat so if we do nick it, they’re high and their full-backs are high, they’ll never get back and two of the goals especially, the full-backs aren’t even in the picture.”
Despite Noussair Mazraoui’s strong start at United, the Moroccan international was missing in action when Diaz netted the first goal of the match. On the opposite side, Diogo Dalot left Salah unmarked to score his third goal of the season, with Slot’s strategy paying off.
Slot has had an undefeated beginning with Liverpool, who are currently second in the Premier League and the only team yet to let in a goal this season. Erik ten Hag, however, is already feeling the heat after losing his first two matches and only managing to score twice.
