Man Utd flop Bebe channels inner Cristiano Ronaldo with incredible 40-yard goal in AFCON clash

During the Africa Cup of Nations, Bebe, a former forward for Manchester United, showed off his Cristiano Ronaldo side by scoring a 40-yard free kick for Cape Verde.

The 33-year-old, who was born in Portugal to parents from Cape Verde, was selected for the starting lineup for their second AFCON group match against Mozambique.

Bebe was given the task of taking Cape Verde’s winning free kick in the 32nd minute, which came from about 40 yards out.

The striker advanced and attempted a shot on goal with the side of his foot, which seemed to veer as it approached Mozambique custodian Ernan.

And the goalkeeper was unable to keep the effort out, with the ball bursting through his hands and into the back of the net.

Although the goal itself wasn’t quite up there with Ronaldo – with question marks over the goalkeeping – the audacity of hitting a free kick from range certainly was.

Bebe has played with Rayo Vallecano of La Liga for the last five and a half years, and he is still active in the highest flight of European football.

After leaving United in 2014, the forward had spells at Benfica and Eibar before joining them as a permanent member.

Bebe, then 20 years old, signed with United in 2010 after being suggested to Sir Alex Ferguson by Carlos Quieroz, who was the manager at the time.

He only managed two goals in seven appearances during his first season at Old Trafford, and he ended up spending the remainder of his time there on loan in Portugal and Turkey.
