Omar Berrada yet to delete scathing Manchester United tweet after being appointed new chief executive

Although they may have succeeded in doing so by acquiring a crucial part of Manchester City’s leadership team, Manchester United has not often been able to defeat their crosstown rivals in recent years.

Omar Berrada will be leaving his position as chief football operations officer for City Football Group, which manages City and a number of other teams worldwide, to take on the role of chief executive at United.

This is one of the first major actions taken by Sir Jim Ratcliffe, the new shareholder and owner of INEOS business, who is currently finalising his quest to control 25% of United and manage the team’s football operations.

Considering that Berrada has been a member of City for almost ten years, it is reasonable to assume that during that period he has supported the blue side of Manchester over the red, as seen by his previous social media tweets.

Berrada has not yet removed the posts he made about United on the social media platform X, which was formerly known as Twitter.

When Berrada was watching United play Chelsea in a match that finished in a 3-3 draw back in early February 2012, he was quite clear about which team he wanted to win.

After Fernando Torres set up Juan Mata for the London side, he added: “Goal! Chelsea 2-0 Manchester United. Oh yeah! Viva la Spanish Connection!”

A year later in 2013, he wrote about the 1999 Champions League final in which United came from behind late on to beat Bayern Munich 2-1 in a dramatic finale at the Camp Nou. But Berrada insisted the German side were the better team.

He wrote: “Watching the Man Utd vs Bayern 1999 UCL final on ESPN Classic. I had forgotten how much Bayern really deserved to win that match.”

And his most recent critical tweet came in 2014 a year after Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement and the fall from grace United experienced under David Moyes.
