🏟️🚨Newcastle insiders have reportedly made a shocking new claim about Alexander Isak, threatening to poison his reputation beyond repair. The Sweden international became the Premier League’s record transfer on deadline day, completing his long-awaited £125 million move to champions Liverpool on Monday night. Much has been made of the way he secured the switch, with the 25-year-old going on strike, issuing a public statement criticising Newcastle’s hierarchy over ‘broken promises’, and failing to acknowledge the fans at any point. In the end, though, all that mattered to him was that he landed his dream move – the same scenario for Yoane Wissa, who came in as his replacement, while Marc Guehi, a model professional, missed out on his own switch to Anfield due to his respect for the process. But if his relationship with the Magpies was already strained, the latest reports about Isak’s behaviour towards the end of the 2024/25 campaign – when Newcastle had to dig deep to find a final burst of form to secure Champions League football – could make an already fraught situation even more volatile. Newcastle Insiders Claim Isak Tried To Sabotage UCL Qualification Isak Luke Edwards, a journalist for The Telegraph, has found himself at the centre of the biggest transfer saga of the summer. From the outset, he positioned himself as the authority on the Isak situation, insisting the player was not for sale and that Liverpool had no realistic path to sign him. But after the walls closed in on the Magpies, and they caved and sold for £25 million less than their initial asking price, the latest suggestion from Edwards has opened a whole new can of worms. According to Edwards, who posted on X and wrote an article chronicling the ins and outs of Isak’s departure, including notes from as far back as May, there are accusations that Isak was “behaving and playing like someone who did not want the team to qualify for the Champions League, as he knew it would make it harder for him to explain to Howe and the supporters why he wanted to go.” In his article, he wrote (see his post below): “Insiders say Isak’s behaviour changed again after that Wembley win. He became quiet and withdrawn; he was not focused or working hard in training. Having scored the winning goal against Liverpool at Wembley and enjoyed the victory parade, there are those that think Isak, privately, felt he had achieved all he wanted as a Newcastle player.”

🏟️🚨 Grimsby Fielded Ineligible Player vs Man Utd as Carabao Cup Replay Stance ClearGrimsby Fielded Ineligible Player vs Man Utd as Carabao Cup Replay Stance Clear Home> Football> Football News> Man Utd Updated 11:51 2 Sep 2025 GMT+1 Published 11:22 2 Sep 2025 GMT+1 Grimsby Fielded Ineligible Player vs Man Utd as Carabao Cup Replay Stance Clear The League Two outfit have landed themselves in a spot of bother less than a week after their historic victory over Manchester United. Luke Davies Luke Davies Grimsby Town have been punished by the English Football League (EFL) after they fielded an ineligible player during the Carabao Cup second round fixture against Manchester United on August 27. Grimsby had one of the most historic nights in their history last week when they knocked 20-time Premier League champions Manchester United out of the Carabao Cup. The League Two side, at one point, led two-nil thanks to strikes from Charles Vernam and Tyrell Warren before Bryan Mbeumo’s goal and Harry Maguire’s leveller sent the match to a penalty shoot-out at Blundell Park. Against all odds, Grimsby won 12-11 on penalties as Ruben Amorim’s tenure at United sank to a new low. The Mariners have since returned to action with a 1-0 loss to Bristol Rovers on Saturday. On Tuesday, it emerged that the club “breached the rules of competition” during their triumph against United, and they will now face punishment. The issue relates to fielding “an ineligible player” against United, which the EFL elaborated on in a statement posted to its website. Unfortunately for United supporters, the game will not be replayed as a precedent has already been set for clubs that breach such regulations. Liverpool had a similar issue back in 2019 when they fielded midfielder Pedro Chirivella in a third-round tie against MK Dons. The Reds were subsequently fined £200,000. The statement from the EFL read: “The EFL Board, acting as the Management Committee of the Carabao Cup, has today fined Grimsby Town Football Club £20,000 – of which £10,000 will be suspended until the end of Season 2025/26 – for having breached the Rules of the competition. “The breach relates to the Club fielding an ineligible player against Manchester United in a Round Two tie on 27 August 2025. Grimsby Town progressed to Round Three following a 12-11 penalty shoot-out win at Blundell Park. “The circumstances leading to this transgression are that Grimsby Town submitted the registration of Clarke Oduor at 12:01 pm on the day before the fixture i.e. shortly after the 12:00 pm deadline required in accordance with the 2025/26 competition rules. Clarke Oduor saw his penalty saved by Andre Onana (Credit:Getty)Clarke Oduor saw his penalty saved by Andre Onana (Credit:Getty) Clarke Oduor saw his penalty saved by Andre Onana (Credit:Getty) “The Club self-reported the breach upon discovery the day after the fixture had been completed. “Following a comprehensive review of all the evidence and considering prior decisions taken in respect of offences in the League Cup, the Board determined that the issuing of a fine followed precedent. “The Board further noted the Club’s non-compliance was not deliberate with no intention to deceive or mislead. The Club has since implemented several actions to prevent a similar occurrence in the future. “The Club will be liable for the suspended sum of £10,000, if they were to again field an ineligible player in any League Competition between now and the end of Season 2025/26.” Grimsby are unlikely to face further sanctions if they stay within the EFL regulations. No club has been expelled from the League Cup in the competitions existence. Grimsby Town respond to EFL stance Shortly after the news broke, Grimsby released their own statement in which they put the error down to a “computer problem”. The club wrote: “Grimsby Town Football Club acknowledges today’s decision by the EFL regarding an error in the registration of Clarke Oduor ahead of our Carabao Cup Round Two fixture against Manchester United.” They added: “We accept the fine imposed and fully recognise the importance of adhering to competition rules and regulations. This mistake was not deliberate, and the Club acted transparently by self-reporting the breach as soon as it came to light. “Since this incident, we have undertaken a thorough review of our processes and implemented strengthened measures to ensure it cannot happen again.”
