Mauricio Pochettino ‘involved in awkward moment’ Chelsea owner Todd Boehly after Carabao Cup final defeat

After Chelsea lost the Carabao Cup final, manager Mauricio Pochettino seemed to stare down owner Todd Boehly.

A Liverpool team without several important players defeated the Blues in extra time, and Virgil van Dijk scored the game-winning goal right as penalties were about to be called.

Due to their injury crisis, Liverpool had to rely heavily on young, inexperienced players, but the rookies did a fantastic job, ensuring that Jurgen Klopp will leave the team with a trophy in his final season.

Chelsea lost out on a fantastic opportunity, and following the match, a video featuring Pochettino went viral on social media.

The Argentine seemed to overlook Boehly as he went to pick up his runners-up medal.

The American tried to go closer to Pochettino, but it was too late; he had already passed him.

Following the rebuff, Pochettino shook hands with Behdad Eghbali, Boehly’s right-hand man, and spent a brief minute interacting with a few young kids.

Following the contentious footage, supporters have made jokes suggesting that the former manager of Southampton and Spurs may be leaving.

Chelsea has faced defeat in all three of its previous domestic cup finals against Liverpool.

Nevertheless, they have now become the first English team to lose six straight domestic championships; their lone victory came against Manchester United during the 2017–18 season.

Gary Neville called Chelsea “Blue billion pound bottlejobs” in a critique.

In his post-match interview, Pochettino responded to a question about it by saying he thought the remark was “not fair” and cited the age differences between the two teams.

In a press conference held after the game, he clarified, “I don’t hear what he said, but if you compare the age of the two groups, I think it is similar.”

“But see, Gary and I get along well, and I appreciate his viewpoint even if I’m not sure how I can handle this. We did, of course, make a few substitutions in extra time, including [Conor] Gallagher and [Ben] Chilwell, but it’s true that we lost the intensity with which we ended the second half.

“I’m not sure how to put it, but I’m proud of the players because I think they worked really hard.”

“As a young team, we cannot be compared to Liverpool as they have already completed.”

“I think it is not fair to talk in this way if he says that. But we are going to keep strong and believing in this project and see what we can do in the future.”
