After Arsenal guaranteed their spot in the Champions League quarterfinals, a 2014 post about Martin Odegaard went viral.

The Gunners, who had lost the first leg 1-0 at the Estadio do Dragao, knew they would need to rally strong going into Tuesday night’s second leg against Porto.

After some outstanding work by Odegaard, Leandro Trossard opened the score with a nice finish, and Arsenal took the lead with 41 minutes remaining.

After 120 minutes, the score remained the same, and the Premier League team eventually prevailed through a penalty shootout. The match went to extra time.

Following the game, a 2014 tweet featuring Arsenal captain Odegaard went viral.

‘101 Great Goals’ posted a post that stated: “If Arsenal does sign Martin Odegaard, they’re a shoo-in for the 2024 Champions League quarter finals.” Arsenal retweeted the message on Tuesday night following the final whistle, emoji-ing a crystal ball.

Since permanently joining Arsenal from Real Madrid in the summer of 2021, the Norwegian has been a vital member of the team.

TNT Sports pundit Ally McCoist reacted to Odegaard’s incredible assist by saying, “Odegaard that is absolutely unbelievable.” The workmanship and touch are exquisite.

Check out this touch, it’s pure genius. Returning to the game, he plays the ball inside fullback, taking Pepe’s pass and leaving the goal scorer unaffected.

The Scotsman added: “Bang, bang, that is magnificent, unbelievable. He knocks Joao Mario off balance, completely off balance and Trossard does the rest.

“What a touch, what a finish, what a goal.”

After this, Arsenal will have an eighteen-day break before playing their next Premier League match, which is scheduled for March 31 at the Etihad Stadium against Manchester City.
