Pair of Premier League players arrested on suspicion of rape
It was reported on Tuesday evening by The Sun that two footballers from a Premier League club were arrested over the weekend on suspicion of rape.
The individuals, both aged 19, have not been identified, nor have their clubs.
One of the players was apprehended at a stadium over the weekend and questioned regarding assault and assisting in a rape incident. After a brief interview, he was permitted to depart the stadium.
However, he was later formally arrested, spent a night in custody, and underwent further questioning. The second player was arrested the following day on suspicion of rape.
The alleged rape is reported to have taken place on Friday night. Both suspects have been released on bail while authorities conduct further investigations.
A police spokesperson commented: “Officers have arrested two men following a report of a rape.
“A 19 year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assault and aiding and abetting a rape.
“A second 19-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of rape.
“Both men have since been released on police bail.”
At this point, it remains uncertain whether the club has imposed suspensions on the players involved.
A spokesperson for the club stated, “As the matter is now under police investigation, the Football Club will refrain from providing further comments at this time.”
