Top european club eyes Liverpool star for summer transfer

Reports from France suggest Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) is considering a move to acquire Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate during the upcoming transfer window. With two years left on his contract at Liverpool, Konate’s situation has attracted the attention of the Ligue 1 champions, who are in search of a new centre-back.

Though PSG has yet to approach Liverpool directly, they have expressed their interest through intermediaries. Konate appears content at Liverpool and is expected to discuss a contract extension with the club’s senior management soon.

Liverpool recently lost Joel Matip after his contract ended, making the potential departure of another key center-back particularly concerning. Despite a dip in form towards the end of the season, Konate has largely impressed, with Liverpool legend Phil Thompson describing him as an “absolute dream” player for the team.

Konate has been a strong defensive presence, ranking second only to Virgil van Dijk in aerial duels won during the previous Premier League season. His tackle success rate of 75% is also notable.

Approaching the prime years of his career, Liverpool is likely to emphasize that they are not just a stepping stone for players looking to move to clubs like PSG. The French giant has yet to achieve significant success in the Champions League, having reached the final only once.

Konate is set to join the French national team in their quest for a third European title this summer, with no immediate signs of a transfer away from Liverpool.
