Leon Goretzka, the Bayern Munich midfielder, has caught the attention of Arsenal as a potential option to fill the gap left by Rodri and to provide Declan Rice with more freedom to advance in play.

Former Arsenal striker Francis Jeffers has shown interest in Goretzka joining Arsenal, believing that his addition could bring a new dynamic to the midfield. Jeffers suggests that Mikel Arteta may not be fully utilizing Rice, Arsenal’s major signing from last summer.

Although Goretzka has played a crucial role in Bayern’s team over the years, intense competition among players at the Allianz Arena has led Jeffers to recommend that Arsenal consider pursuing this transfer.

After watching Leon Goretzka perform at the Emirates Stadium earlier this week, Jeffers shared his views with Ladbrokes Fanzone, saying, “In my opinion, based on their current setup, Declan Rice is most effective when he has the freedom to influence the game rather than being restricted to the number six role. I believe that a player like Goretzka, who is a strong presence in the number six position, combined with Rice and Martin Odegaard playing further forward, would greatly improve the squad.”

Jeffers sees this as an area where Arsenal could make a significant improvement. With Thomas Partey having been out for five months due to injuries from the previous year, there is uncertainty about Mikel Arteta’s plans for his future role.

“Jorginho is known for his excellent game reading; however, in terms of physicality, teams like Bayern Munich and Manchester City dominate that aspect of midfield play,” Jeffers noted. “When facing opponents in the tunnel, players like Goretzka and Rodri can be truly intimidating.”

The potential addition of Goretzka raises questions about the depth Arsenal needs in midfield. Recent reports have linked the club to several midfielders, including Amadou Onana, Douglas Luiz, and Martin Zubimendi, as mentioned by Arsenal correspondent Charles Watts. However, Goretzka’s attributes offer a unique dimension that could complement Arsenal’s style, particularly if his presence allows for a tactical adjustment, giving Rice more attacking freedom similar to Martin Odegaard’s role.

Securing a player of Rodri’s caliber, as showcased in his recent performances for Manchester City, could be a major success for Arsenal and elevate the club to a higher level.
