Manchester United is facing an incredible opportunity to sign Ruben Neves from Al Hilal for a stunning price of just £20 million during this January transfer window.

According to reputable sources, including The Guardian, Manchester United is seriously considering bringing former Wolves captain Ruben Neves back to the Premier League this month.

The midfielder, currently playing for Al Hilal, is regarded as a perfect transfer target with a fee of only around £20 million—a true bargain considering his proven talent.

The basis for the Red Devils’ confidence in this deal lies in Neves’ contract situation. The Portuguese star is entering the final six months of his contract with the Saudi Arabian side, making him a “high quality yet affordable” asset on the market.

Currently, Neves has been included in Man Utd’s shortlist. Although no final decision has been made, the top brass at Old Trafford are evaluating the feasibility of the deal. If everything goes smoothly, the budget is already in place to complete the signing.

Notably, Man Utd’s transfer plans remain active despite the uncertainty on the managerial bench. Reports indicate that Michael Carrick is expected to be appointed as interim manager this week.

Despite not having a long-term official head coach, the club’s board understands they cannot stay out of the game when an opportunity to sign a world-class midfielder like Neves arises with little competition.

In terms of technical fit, the addition of Ruben Neves is an urgent solution to the midfield puzzle that has troubled Man Utd for years.

The Old Trafford side currently possesses pure “destroyers” like Casemiro or Manuel Ugarte, but they lack a defensive midfielder capable of setting the tempo and distributing the ball to control the game. Neves is exactly the type of player craved by modern possession-based teams.

Neves’ class is indisputable, as he remains a regular starter in the Portuguese national team—a midfield packed with stars like Bruno Fernandes, Bernardo Silva, Vitinha, and Joao Palhinha.

The fact that such a high-quality player is available for £20 million without many giants jumping into the race is a big question mark. Therefore, Man Utd needs to act decisively before other rivals realize and join the pursuit.

Under the supervision of Jason Wilcox and Sir Jim Ratcliffe, fans expect the new owners not to make any foolish mistakes that would result in losing out on what could be the most potential signing of the year. This is simply a deal that Man Utd will not want to miss.
