Hansi Flick is reportedly urging FC Barcelona sporting director Deco to consider making a move for Nick Woltemade during the upcoming summer transfer window.
Despite the striker’s costly £69 million transfer from VfB Stuttgart in the summer of 2015, Flick still views the German forward as a player who could strengthen Barcelona’s attack. The 24-year-old, who currently plays for Newcastle United under manager Eddie Howe, has recorded 10 goals and 4 assists in 42 appearances and remains under contract at the club until 2031.
Why Flick Wants Woltemade
Flick is reportedly concerned about Barcelona’s attacking depth. Veteran striker Robert Lewandowski is now 37 years old, while Ferran Torres has struggled to maintain consistent performances.
Because of this, the German coach is pushing for a striker who can add physical presence, dominate aerial battles, and improve the team’s effectiveness inside the penalty area.
Woltemade is believed to fit this profile well. With his height, solid ball control, and room for further development, Flick sees him as a forward capable of improving Barcelona’s attacking structure. Although he may not attract the same media attention as some top stars, his work rate and ability to score could provide the balance Barcelona currently needs up front.
Obstacles to the Transfer
However, the situation is not straightforward. Barcelona’s sporting leadership, particularly Deco, is believed to prefer pursuing more high-profile names such as Erling Haaland of Manchester City or Harry Kane from Bayern Munich.
Financial limitations, though, could make those blockbuster deals unrealistic this summer. As a result, Flick’s proposal to sign Woltemade may become a more practical option for the club.
