Liverpool are reportedly keeping an eye on Brighton midfielder Carlos Baleba as a potential target for the summer transfer window.

The Reds already have a strong midfield, with Ryan Gravenberch showing notable improvement under Arne Slot, while Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai remain key players at Anfield.

Despite this, Liverpool had been interested in signing Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad last summer, but the move did not materialize. Now, according to Football Insider, their attention has turned to Baleba as another possible addition to their midfield.

Liverpool are believed to be “fully aware” of Baleba’s abilities, with the 21-year-old widely seen as a player with significant potential.

Liverpool to Compete with Chelsea for Baleba

The report also notes Chelsea’s interest in Baleba, which is unsurprising given their track record of signing players from Brighton. Moises Caicedo, Robert Sanchez, and Marc Cucurella all made the move from the Seagulls to Stamford Bridge, while Chelsea also previously appointed Graham Potter from the south coast club.

Chelsea’s approach of targeting top young talents might appeal to Baleba, as it could provide him with greater opportunities for playing time in Enzo Maresca’s squad.

However, Liverpool could be the more attractive option at present, with Slot’s side currently leading the Premier League and competing for the title. Even so, Baleba is expected to prioritize consistent game time, which Chelsea might be better positioned to offer.

That said, Chelsea’s midfield is already packed with talent, including Caicedo, Enzo Fernandez, and Romeo Lavia, making competition for places just as fierce.
