Liverpool fell to a 3-2 loss to AS Monaco in their 2026 pre-season friendly, which was also their first game at Anfield in the 2026/27 season. Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz scored for the Reds, as here are the player ratings from the friendly.
Alexander Isak – 8
Isak is looking really sharp before the start of the 2026/27 Premier League campaign! He looked really smooth with his movement and his positioning was impressive as well, allowing him to outwit the defenders time and again. The Swedish forward produced a stylish close-range finish for his goal and actually also bagged an assist. He was a danger for the Reds frontline for the majority of the first half, looking good in his 60-minute outing.
Ryan Gravenberch – 8
That was a really positive performance from Gravenberch, as he is still adapting to the new style under Andoni Iraola. He was a powerful figure in the midfield, passing the ball forward pretty well and also creating two chances. The Dutchman made the assist for Isak’s goal and was defensively robust too, making 10 posssession recoveries and two interceptions.
Florian Wirtz – 7.5
Wirtz continues to look at home in the no.10 role in Iraola’s style and he was a livewire in the attack for Liverpool against Monaco as well. The German midfielder was clean with his passing, creating a few nice chances and also working hard to regain possession in the midfield with five recoveries. He scored a rather fortunate goal that indicates he’ll try to be closer to the opposition goal for such crisp finishes going forward.
Lewis Koumas – 7
The 20-year-old forward was a real livewire in the right-wing role for Liverpool, causing real problems to the Monaco defenders. He made a number of eye-catching forward runs into the final third, creating room for himself pretty well. He had a few shots blocked, and played a nice cross into the box resulting in Wirtz’s goal.
Dominik Szoboszlai – 6
Even though Szoboszlai wasn’t bad in the friendly, he didn’t really look like his influential self again. He created a few nice chances, but failed to pose a major goal threat and was particularly concerning defensively – losing five duels and failing to make a single notable defensive contribution.
Wataru Endo – 5
If that performance from Endo is any proof, then he probably isn’t going to be playing as a centre-back in this new system. The Japanese defender lost a number of duels and was particularly poor for Monaco’s second goal, failing to make a clearance to gift them that goal.
