Liverpool is said to be eager to sign an English winger, as Borussia Dortmund has lowered their valuation by £25 million.
The club is reportedly one of those interested in Jamie Gittens, the Dortmund left winger, who could now be available for a reduced amount.
The England U21 representative moved to Dortmund from Manchester City in 2020 and has been linked with Liverpool on multiple occasions this season.
German reports confirm continued interest from the Reds, with journalist Fabrizio Romano stating last month that club scouts have monitored the 20-year-old several times.
A recent update from Sky Germany reinforces Liverpool’s pursuit, mentioning that Dortmund is “internally preparing” for the possible departure of their No. 43 at the season’s end.
Other clubs, including Chelsea, Manchester United, Tottenham, and Bayern Munich, are also in contention, while the Premier League is referred to as Gittens’ “dream destination.”
Sky Germany further points out that should Dortmund fail to qualify for either the Champions League or Europa League by the end of the campaign, they may be forced to part ways with Gittens.
With 10 Bundesliga matches left, Dortmund currently sits 10th, only five points behind fifth place, which secures a Europa League spot.
The club has not placed lower than fifth since the 2014/15 season and has competed in the Champions League for nine consecutive years.
Initially, Gittens was valued at €100 million (£82.7 million), though this is seen as “rather unrealistic,” with a more feasible range of €60 million (£49.6 million) to €70 million (£57.9 million) suggested for potential buyers.
The winger has made 94 appearances for Dortmund’s first team, recording 16 goals and 10 assists while continuing to develop as an attacking force.
Primarily positioned on the left wing, he has also played on the right 15 times and once as a central attacking midfielder.
He has been a regular for England U21 over the past two seasons, including a goal assisted by Harvey Elliott in a 7-0 win against Luxembourg around this time last year.
Liverpool currently has significant depth on the left wing, with Cody Gakpo as the second-highest scorer and the versatile Luis Diaz.
This depth raises doubts about their reported interest in Gittens; however, potential changes in Arne Slot’s attacking setup this summer could shift priorities.
Diaz remains linked with Barcelona, with his contract entering its final two years in July, while Darwin Nunez is expected to leave amid interest from Saudi Arabia.
Speculation continues over Mohamed Salah’s future, as the Egyptian has yet to secure a satisfactory contract extension despite his desire to stay.
While Gittens is not an immediate replacement for Salah—given his natural position on the opposite flank—Liverpool remains a possible destination as they reshape their attacking options.
