Liverpool is preparing to sell Luis Diaz to raise funds for a new striker.
The club plans to transfer the 28-year-old Colombian forward this summer to support their pursuit of a top-tier striker.
Mick Brown, former chief scout for Manchester United and Blackburn, who has deep connections in the football world, revealed that Liverpool is looking to refresh their attacking options amid growing interest in their players.
Arne Slot is determined to add another “world-class” forward, regardless of Mohamed Salah’s future, but to do so, space must be created within the squad.
Diaz has been considered a key asset since last summer, with reports indicating Liverpool would entertain offers starting at £50 million for his transfer.
This season, he has played 35 matches across all competitions, starting 26, scoring 13 goals, and providing three assists.
Despite his contributions, Liverpool is keen to bring in a dedicated striker and may use Diaz’s sale to make that move possible.
Liverpool is eyeing Alexander Isak as a potential replacement if Diaz departs.
On February 16, Football Insider reported that Liverpool’s interest in Newcastle’s Alexander Isak is “genuine” and “very strong.”
Brown, with extensive experience in elite player recruitment from his time at Manchester United during their dominant years, suggested that selling Diaz could open the door for Liverpool to chase more ambitious transfer targets.
“Liverpool is in a situation similar to what Manchester United once faced,” he noted.
“They have a strong squad and are in contention for trophies, but the challenge remains in finding ways to improve the team.”
The difficulty lies in the shrinking pool of available elite players.
“Do they have a clear best lineup? I’d argue they don’t.
“Salah is a guaranteed starter on the right, but there’s a rotation among Cody Gakpo, Darwin Nunez, Diogo Jota, and Luis Diaz, who alternate between the striker role and the left wing.
“This is a crucial area, particularly in the center-forward position, where they will look to strengthen.
“They aim to sign a high-caliber striker to lead the line, supported by quality attacking players around him.
“In this context, Diaz could be the one to make way, as a new arrival may limit his playing time.
“I’ve heard multiple clubs are interested in him, so if the right offer comes in, Liverpool may be open to letting him go.
“This would allow them to reinvest in the forward Slot wants to bring in.”
Meanwhile, Arne Slot has made a decision regarding Diogo Jota’s future at Liverpool.
Alongside Diaz, Jota has also been linked with a potential summer departure from Anfield.
The 28-year-old has attracted interest from clubs in the Saudi Pro League, while Arsenal is also monitoring his situation.
On February 19, Football Insider reported that Jota is not part of Slot’s long-term vision and will be allowed to leave if a suitable offer is made.
Any departures in attack are expected to be addressed in the transfer market, as Liverpool looks to strengthen their squad after a strong season.
