Jamie Carragher heavily criticized Manchester United’s defending under Erik ten Hag for five minutes during Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football.

On Saturday afternoon, United suffered a dramatic defeat against Fulham at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils equalized in the 89th minute, only for Alex Iwobi to score the winner deep into stoppage time, securing a 2-1 victory for Marco Silva’s team.

On Monday night, before the West Ham United vs. Brentford match, Carragher, along with former Manchester City and Arsenal defender Gael Clichy, appeared on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football.

Carragher was highly critical of United’s defensive performance in the Fulham game.

The former Liverpool player questioned the instructions given to the players while analyzing a clip from the kick-off that involved young midfielder Kobbie Mainoo.

Carragher then stated: “We go to the reason why they’re poor defensively and can’t cope with counterattacks.”

He added: “They’ve got no pace at the back and lack legs in midfield. Another big issue for them is when they’re in possession.”

Carragher continued by analyzing the positions of different players, stating: “These players can’t receive the ball in the positions they occupy, which creates a significant problem for Manchester United when they’re in possession.”

He concluded: “How many times have we seen Manchester United players having to run 40 yards back toward their own goal?”
